Voice of the Merit Shop

ABC Massachusetts is the merit shop construction industry’s voice with all legislative, executive and judicial branches throughout local, state and the federal government. Our mission is to advance the merit shop construction philosophy, which encourages open competition and a free enterprise approach that awards contracts based on merit, regardless of labor affiliation.

We engage at all levels of government and with a wide range of stakeholders, fighting to promote fair and open competition throughout the construction industry and creating equal access and opportunity for our members. We work with elected and appointed officials, administrative agencies, and governing bodies to foster informed legislative, regulatory, and administrative decisions.

We are the largest construction trade association in New England and the only one fighting to protect the rights of merit shop contractors.

Legislative Priorities	ABC works to ensure that the merit-shop philosophy is represented at all levels of government. We have developed strong relationships throughout Governor Baker’s Administration and leaders on Beacon Hill due to our sensible and reasoned approach to the issues impacting construction. We support legislation and policies that ensure a level playing field for both merit shop and union contractors and oppose policy initiatives that seek to stifle free and open competition. Government Affairs Committee	The success of our government affairs efforts is largely determined by the volume, variety and intensity of our member’s engagement. Strength in the political process comes from the ground up. The more actively engaged members we have, the more success we will experience.
